Swan Station Computer
A terminal requiring manual input every 108 minutes to prevent a catastrophic release of electromagnetic energy.
The Swan Station Computer is the interface within the Dharma Initiative's underground facility, known as 'the hatch'. Dr. Pierre Chang (under the alias Dr. Marvin Candle) recorded an orientation film in 1980 explaining that the computer must not be used for any purpose other than its intended function, specifically forbidding communication with other stations.

Lore & Background
The computer's existence stems from 'the Incident' in 1977, when drilling into an electromagnetic pocket released dangerous energy. Radzinsky insisted on the drilling despite warnings from Dr. Chang. The Swan Station was built to manage this energy. In 1980, the orientation film instructed users that the computer is not to be used for communication.
In Their Own Story
In 1977, a massive explosion occurred when survivors attempted to detonate a hydrogen bomb to negate the release of electromagnetic energy from the drilled pocket. This event returned time travelers to 2007. Following the incident, facilities fell into disrepair. By 1988, many were abandoned, though supply drops continued via drones launched from Guam until the warehouse was shut down by Ben Linus in the epilogue.
Reader's Guide
The computer requires a specific numerical sequence to be entered at precise intervals to reset internal pressure gauges and prevent catastrophic energy release. Operation is strictly manual; automated systems failed during 'the Incident' in 1977. The orientation film recorded in 1980 by Dr. Marvin Candle explicitly states the computer must not be used to communicate with other stations.
Did You Know?
- Dr. Pierre Chang, also known as Dr. Marvin Candle, recorded the orientation film for the Swan Station in 1980.
- The computer is strictly forbidden from being used to communicate with other stations according to the 1980 orientation film.
- Supply drops were sent to the Island via parachute from a cargo plane, not drones.
- The Incident occurred in 1977 when drilling into an electromagnetic pocket released a catastrophically dangerous amount of energy.
