A dentist who survives a plane crash split, waits years for his wife, and finds her healed by the island.
Bernard Nadler is a fictional character on the ABC series Lost, played by Sam Anderson. He is a dentist who marries Rose Henderson after she reveals she has cancer with only a year left to live. On their honeymoon in Australia, they visit a faith healer named Isaac, who cannot cure her; Rose lies and tells Bernard he was healed so they could spend their remaining time together. During the return flight on Oceanic Flight 815, Bernard leaves his seat to use the restroom when the plane hits turbulence and splits in half. He lands with the tail-section survivors while Rose survives with the fuselage group. They reunite midway through season two after a three-year separation caused by time travel, during which they built a cabin near the ocean to live in peace. In the series finale, set in an afterlife, Bernard works as a dentist again and reunites with other survivors in a church.

Lore & Background
To surprise the audience, the creators made Bernard white despite Rose being black, leading some viewers to initially assume Mr. Eko was her husband. The couple did not appear in most of season three due to actor scheduling conflicts with Sam Anderson and L. Scott Caldwell. In flashbacks for "S.O.S.", Rose reveals she told Bernard the faith healer cured her when he actually had no effect, allowing them to enjoy their final year together without despair.
In Their Own Story
Bernard lands with the tail-section survivors after Oceanic Flight 815 splits mid-air. He finds an abandoned research station and uses a radio to contact Boone, though Ana Lucia dismisses the signal as a trick by the Others. After Michael, Jin, and Sawyer reunite him with Rose, she reveals the Island has healed her cancer. Bernard helps rig tents with dynamite in season three but is captured by the Others before being rescued by Sawyer, Hurley, and Juliet. He later uses his knowledge of Morse code to expose a lie from a freighter crew. Following time jumps in season five, he and Rose retire to a cabin near the ocean.
