Walt is the 10-year-old son of Michael Dawson, a construction worker, and Susan Lloyd, a law student. Born August 24, 1994, he was named after Michael's father. His mother refused to marry his father but took him to Amsterdam as an infant before moving to Rome with her boss, Brian Porter, two weeks before Walt's second birthday. After a legal battle, Susan died in Australia from a blood disorder eight years later, and Brian gave custody of Walt to Michael, revealing he was scared of the boy. On the island, Walt exhibited natural talent in knife throwing and formed friendships with Locke and Sun after his relationship with Michael became dysfunctional. He briefly possessed supernatural abilities, suggested by producers to include summoning animals through telepathy, such as causing a bird to hit a window or making a polar bear attack him. The Others kidnapped him because he was 'more than [they] could handle,' releasing him in the episode 'Live Together, Die Alone'.

In Their Own Story

After the crash of Oceanic Flight 815, Walt spent time with John Locke, intrigued by his hunting instincts, and exhibited a natural talent for knife throwing. He attempted to sneak away with Locke and Boone but was stopped by Michael. Later, he set fire to the raft Michael built to leave the island because he did not want to go. On the night of 'Exodus', he gave Vincent the dog to Shannon before leaving on the raft with Michael, Jin, and Sawyer. That same night, they encountered the Others who kidnapped Walt. While in captivity, he appeared to Shannon. In the mobisode 'Room 23', it was revealed Walt frightened the Others so much they avoided seeing him.

Walt Lloyd is a fictional character portrayed by Malcolm David Kelley in Lost. Born August 24, 1994, he is the son of Michael Dawson and Susan Lloyd. After his mother's death in Australia, he was taken into custody by his father, who had to travel to Sydney with tickets provided by Brian Porter, Susan's boss, who claimed to be afraid of Walt. On the island, Walt became the only child main character, appearing in thirty episodes total. He left the island on a raft during 'Exodus' but was kidnapped by the Others. They released him in 'Live Together, Die Alone', stating he was 'more than [they] could handle'. Following his departure from the island, he lived with his grandmother after learning Michael killed Ana-Lucia and Libby. In 'The Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham', Locke visited him in New York City. Later, in 'There's No Place Like Home', Walt visited Hurley at Santa Rosa Mental Institution. The series epilogue, 'The New Man in Charge', shows Ben and Hurley visiting Walt in the mental hospital to take him back to the island.
