Claire was raised in Sydney by her mother, Carole, who told her her father had died. As a teenager, a car accident left Carole hospitalized but in a coma; Christian Shephard paid for her care and revealed he was Claire's father. Years later, pregnant by Thomas, Claire planned to give the baby up for adoption until Richard Malkin warned that danger surrounded the child. He paid for her ticket on Oceanic Flight 815 and insisted she take that exact flight. After crashing, Claire panicked about not feeling the baby move and initially refused to leave the beach with Jack Shephard. Kidnapped by Ethan Rom, she returned with amnesia. After giving birth to Aaron, she faced threats from others, including Rousseau kidnapping the baby before Charlie and Sayid retrieved him. In Season 4, following Charlie's death, Claire moved into the barracks with Locke's group but later followed Christian Shephard's apparition, leaving Aaron in the jungle near the Others' camp. She was not officially listed as dead in the show's canon; the Oceanic 6 claimed she died in the crash as a cover story, while Aaron was raised by Kate. In Season 6, she returned to the island having been 'infected' and was found by Jin alone in the jungle, later held in a cage-like structure at the Temple before escaping with Kate.

Claire sat on the beach after the crash, refusing to move into the caves until Charlie persuaded her. Later, after being rescued from Ethan Rom, she gave birth to Aaron in the jungle, assisted by Kate, Jin, and Charlie. When Rousseau kidnapped the baby, Claire named him Aaron and waited for his return. After moving to the barracks in Season 4, an explosion forced her group back to the beach, where she saw Christian Shephard holding Aaron before following him into the jungle, leaving the baby behind. In Season 6, she was found by Jin acting erratically, singing 'Catch a Falling Star' after being held in the Temple pit, and later escaped with Kate.
